twitter in christchurch

400 word computing project
  1. In what ways did twitter help people in christchurch?
-People underneath the rubble can tweet for help
-People are giving warnings of where not to go
-People are announcing help e.g. food and water
-People are also tweeting about BBQs or other gathering that offer food support and shelter
Quote examples of tweets that show the different uses.
Twitter has been used to get people to donate and fund raise for the people that have been affected by the earthquake
These are just some of the many examples of people trying to help the people affected by the earthquake by fund raising money.
how do people use the twitter functions?
the favorites function is probably the most handy because it allows you to comment on your favorite posts within your own page so you do not have to be hassled and have to reload pages just to comment on something.Managing Twitter use is a big issue for most users. The favorite function assists the management of your messages by allowing you more control and flexibility with the information you receive. there are also many other functions you can download to make twitter easier to use
Why is twitter good in a crisis?
The people stuck under rubble or the people that are stuck in building can use there ipods, iphones, etc to tweet about where they are and where not to go such as survival shouters that are extremely full and cannot fit anymore people in. twitter is also a free way to communicate and does not have the problems that phones have such as running out of battery or the network provider being jammed.
compare it with Facebook.
Content shared on twitter is likely to always be different than content shared on Facebook. twitter only submits text posts, while essentially all forms of media can be posted on Facebook.
Facebook and Twitter actually look like pretty different products and businesses today. Twitter is a hybrid broadcast/conversation communication platform, while Facebook is an identity platform with communicational, content distribution, and financial applications built on top of it. Unless Twitter gives users more Facebook-like control over different parts of their identity, Twitter is going to have a hard time serving those users who are more sensitive to security in addition to those aiming for more visibility.
